The nomination of Aminu Iyawa, as the Ambassadorial nominee from Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, is not only a mistake but a mischievous move to shortchange people like Dr. Clifford Zira who genuinely worked for the victory of APC in the 2015 General Election. Iyawa was nowhere when people like us were going about campaigning for the victory of APC in Adamawa State. Someone may ask, where was Iyawa during the campaign period? I make bold to tell you that he pitched his tent with PDP during that campaign period. It is a known fact for those of us that follows the politics of Adamawa State that Iyawa worked for PDP Gubernatorial candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu in the last General Election. His sudden drift and romance with APC came after his spell with PDP in the last General Election failed since he was not a loyal party man.To many of us, him joining APC after the election didn’t come as a surprise because he is a fair-weather politician. A man void of political conviction. A Hausa man will say “bai da akida”.
You may wish to know few things about the politics and ways of Aminu Iyawa. If you care, let me take you for a ride. He was brought to the limelight as a Commissioner in Adamawa State by the former Governor Murtala Nyako. It is natural for any good fellow to pitch his tent with someone that picked you up from a slump and made you, in either good or bad time. A politician with a double standard like Aminu Iyawa does not believe in loyalty, he was the first to pledge allegiance to Umaru Fintiri after the impeachment of his former Boss, Admiral Murtala Nyako. He led a delegation to Umaru Fintiri to pledge their allegiance. Politically this is an outright betrayal of one formal Boss. I am not here to castigate Fintiri or praise Nyako, rather set a record straight that Iyawa is an ingrate and serial betrayer that has no political conviction. He came out openly to despise and disdain the man that made him a Commissioner. If Nyako failed, he also should equally share the blame but he chose to play to the gallery.
The man Iwaya, a fair-weather politician and a man known for his double standard disposition shamelessly tendered an apology to the Nigerian Senate knowing full well he will face them during his screening as an Ambassadorial Nominee. A man of noble character would rather not do that if his criticism was out of true conviction. Let me briefly tell you his offense: Aminu Iyawa called for the scrapping of the Senate of the Federal Republic. That act in itself is staging the public against the Nigerian Senate. No patriotic Nigerian that worth his salt would do that. Shamelessly after his nomination as an Ambassadorial Nominee, he quickly retracted unpatriotic call for scrapping the Senate and tendered an apology in the national dailies. If you may ask why vomiting out in public and quickly lick back the vomit? The answer is simple, the Senate he accused, disdained and lampooned has to clear him first before he becomes an Ambassador. The 8th Senate has proven on several fronts that they are distinguished Men and women and can’t be taken for granted. I am sure they won’t allow that to be pushed under the carpet. They should set an example with Aminu Iyawa so as to send a signal to paid agents that call them names, despising the Institution they represent. The sudden shift in his position about Senate further exposed his real self: he is a cheap and empty politician. If he has any element of integrity, he would have stood by his conviction about the Senate. For the record, from the time he called for the scrapping of the Senate to the time he shamelessly apologized, has the Senate composition changed? Nothing has changed, it was the same set of Senators he rubbished and lampooned. A man that can be easily tossed to and fro like Aminu Iyawa is not fit to represent Nigerians as their Ambassador.
Adamawa State is blessed with brilliant minds and men with noble character, among which is Dr Clifford Ziira. A first class graduate of Agric Economics, a committed APC member. A man that had a successful career in Banking. He is a Nationalist, detribalized and a true Democrat. His omission from the Ambassadorial Nominee list should be reconsidered. Our three Distinguished Senators from Adamawa State, SGF and all the APC Stakeholders from Adamawa State should kindly intervene and do the needful. Adamawa State must present its best and not a rogue politician like Iyawa. The Senate should please save the face of Nigerians. Aminu doesn’t have the Integrity and wherewithal to represent Nigerians as their Ambassador in a foreign land. In addition, the skewed appointments by the present Federal Government ( where out of 16 key appointments to Adamawa state all came from Central senatorial zone save for only one key appointment each in the northern and southern senatorial zones and all the three ambassadorial designates are also all from the central senatorial zones). Knowing PMB as a man of integrity, equity and fair play, we don’t have any doubt that he will reverse this appointment.
