2nd edition of HRH. Kuru Kona Unity Cup football competition commences in Taraba

The second edition of HRH. Kuru Kona, Chief Agustine Vengkani Unity Cup knock out matches has commenced in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital with 40 football clubs participating.

The first match between Kona FC and Kachalla FC which took place at the Kona GR football pitch, was kicked-off by the Royal Father alongside his District and village heads as well as some prominent politicians.

The trophy that is being competed on within the Youths of Kona Chiefdom and beyond, is part of efforts of HRH. Kuru Kona of maintaining peaceful coexistence amongst the youths of various ethnic and religious beliefs.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the flagged off of the competetion, the Secretary of the Chiefdom, Samuel Jauro noted that Football brings Unity amongst diverse Tribes and Religions together in the Chiefdom.

“Organizing this competion will bring peaceful coexistence amongst the diverse ethics groups in the Chiefdom and beside that, it also brings about physical development to the Youths and correct ills in the Society.

According to him, if Youths are engaged in Football activities, it will go a long way in reducing most of the social vices carried out by the them.

Jauro pointed out that HRH KURU KONA is a Man of Peace and Unity who always do everything possible to maintain and promote peaceful coexistence in his Chiefdom and beyond.

He advised the Youths to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and respect the rules and regulations of the Competion so as to avoid problem within their Colleagues.

“Let them go by the rules guiding the Competion and officials should do justice in officiating all Matches”. The Secretary added.

Also speaking, the Coach of Kona FC, Auwal Gombi appreciated HRH Chief Agustine Vengkani for his initiative in organizing the Competion, adding that it will go a long way in uniting the people of the Chiefdom and beyond.

He informed that the first edition of the competion was initially started within the Kona community only, but have now extended to the entire jalingo local government area of the state.

Gombi also disclosed that the effort of the Royal Father has gotten support from eminent personalities within and outside the Chiefdom.

“We are excited with HRH. Kuru Kona for uniting the Youths of his Chiefdom and beyond irrespective of ethic, religion or tribal” said Auwal Gombi.

The participating Teams include Kona FC, Kachalla FC, Fly Jets, 11 Bullets, Mile Six FC, Minda B FC, Nukkai FC, KB Warriors, Abuja Minda FC, Abbasang FC, FC Technibat, Junbumbu FC, Golden Stars, Black Arrow, FC Uche Obi, J. Boy FC, Nassarawo United, Ade Stars, ATC River Side, Gamji FC and Liberty FC.

Others are, FC Legacy, Nyabon Kaka FC, Mancity Academy, Magami Stars, FC Galaxy, NTA Stars, Gulum FC, City Stars, Taraba Warriors, Kuru Njenmang FC, Minda A, Shooting Stars, Santana, FC Yaggai, Lassandi FC, Iware Pillars, Mighty Jet, Taraba Stars and Dimon Stars.

Our Correspondent reports that women, girls and children in their members both christians and muslims were the fans of various football clubs that graced the open match.
