Herders/Farmers Crisis : Rochas Care Nig Ltd gives scholarship to 500 Fulanis out of sch children

No fewer than 500 fulani out of school children across Nigeria, are to benefit from the education scholarship scheme of a former Governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha under Rochas Fulani Special School.

The Director General, Rochas Care Foundation, Hon. Salisu Sabo disclosed this at the one-day conference organized by the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-Cultural Association on peaceful coexistence, held Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, Taraba state capital.

He said, the Rochas Care Foundation decided to established the fulani special school with the view to accord them a special consideration as well as a sense of belonging in the society.

Sabo informed that the program, which will kick-start with the enrollment of 500 fulani out of school children at the end of April, 2021, was also part of the foundation’s vision to make education accessible to every African child regardless of tribe and religion.

According to him, the. Foundation would be awarding scholarship for 500 fulani students every year in collaboration with Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-Cultural Association who will be responsible for the selection and ensuring that genuine fulani children are enrolled into secondary to tertiary institution.

“We are going to start this school with immediate effect, because already we have six existing schools across the country, we have one in Adamawa, that is including the people of Taraba will go to Adamawa, we have one in kano, one in Sokoto, one Jos and one in Bauchi. And we promised to be giving to 500 fulani children yearly and we will sponsor them from secondary upto tertiary institution”.

Hon. Salisu Sabo who is also the Special Adviser to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-Cultural Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo on Inter-relations, attributed the tagging of fulanis as criminals to lack of education, believing that with the enrollment of fulani children in schools the narrative will change.

He revealed that, based on the available statistics, out of the 13 million out of school children, the fulanis have about 3 million across Nigeria and assured the foundation’s commitment to educate them.

Commenting on the development, the National President of Association of Fulani Volunteers on Nomadic education from Jigawa state, Comrade Nura Mailafiya described the gesture as commendable and applauded Senator Rochas Okorocha for his service to humanity.

According to him, if Nigeria will get leaders like Senator Rochas Okorocha, almost all the problems bedeviling the country would be solved and called on Northern leaders to emulate the former Imo state Governor.

The program with the theme’ Imperative of Peaceful Coexistence between Herders and Farmers in Nigeria, had in attendance the Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, the Chief of Mambilla, HRH. Dr. Shehu Baku, the Galadiman Muri, Alhaji Tukur Abba Tukur who represented the Emir of Muri, HRH. Alhaji Abbas Tafida as well as Dr. Abubakar Gire who was among the paper presenters.
