The crisis in the Adamawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took a turn for the worse at the weekend, as the party lost the bye-election into the local government councillorship seat in the electoral ward of the incumbent deputy governor of the state.

The bye-Election, which was conducted into three wards in murder, Guyuk, and shelleng local government council areas by the Adamawa state Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC, saw the party losing the Lamurde ward in controversial circumstances, throwing up the existing cleavages and factionalizations within the state ruling party.

Speaking to the press, the state PDP organizing secretary, Alhaji Hamza Madagali, acknowledged the fact that the party lost the election in a high-profile constituency like Lamurde ward, describing it as unfortunate.

‘’The PDP is going back to the drawing board to unravel the various forces that led to the party losing the ward’’. It is unfortunate, it is a minus for us and we are going to backtrack on the process to see if we can repair the mistake for the sake of future elections’’.

Hamza denied that factionalizations within the party led to their loss, adding that however, they would do a post-mortem.

Hamza’s denial came against the background of the fact that a sitting member of the house of Representative on the PDP party platform, from the constituency, was alleged to have engaged in an open campaign for the opposition APC candidate, who won the bye

The party organizing secretary said however that the victory of the opposition candidate was a result of the resolve of Governor Fintiri, not to interfere in the electoral process.

Both The Incumbent Deputy Governor, Seth Crowder, and the Honourable Member representing Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde, Barr. Lori Kwamoti is believed to be at dagger drawn in the political feud.

Also speaking on the controversial loss of the PDP in the bye-elections, a PDP stalwart in Lamourde local government area, Abraham Waduku, attributed the fortunes of the party to the ambitions of Honourable Member, whom he alleged was working assiduously to replace the deputy Governor in 2023.

Waiuku, questioned the proprietary of the party leadership in engaging, in a feud that is counterproductive.
