Adamawa Police Command trains 250 special constabularies for community policing

Adamawa Command of the Nigerian Police has trained two hundred and fifty vigilante as special constabularies for community policing in the state

The Police Commissioner, Aliyu Alhaji Adamu during a sensitization and innaguration of the 250 trained personnels said the essence is all about Policing the community by the community.

The Innaguration ceremony organized by the Command in the officers Mess of the police in Yola, Alhaji revealed that the constabulary men were carefully done a background checked on and selected to help in the issues of community policing with an aim to have a crime free society.

According to him their coming is timely, and at a time that insecurity is prevailing in the country.

Adamu sought the cooperation of citizens and other security personnel in the state In achieving a crime-free society through the help and support of the special trainedcommunity policing personnels

Also, during the sensitization and inaugural ceremony, Adamu said that community policing will require the police involving the community in deciding policing priorities and also promote transparency and honesty, adding that part of the values of community policing is that the police must respect and protect the rights of citizens through demonstrable commitment in delivering best quality at all time.

A retired Police officer, DIG Philemon Leha who was a special guest and presented a paper said that police have not gained enough support from the community to effectively hold the grassroots, instead they have been victims of hostile reactions.


He noted that community policing would improve police support, while admonishing citizens on the need to support the police to achieve great feat.

Leha said that Cooperating with the community Police will help solve many crimes related issues in Adamawa communities.

Earlier, the Adamawa State Governor representative by chief of staff Government House, Prof Maxwell Gidado said the gathering is to find a lasting solution to curbing the rising crime in the state in the area of insurgency, kidnapping, and shela boys, he also thank the police command for initiating the community Police, and

He said that the police cannot do it alone, the need support and cooperation of the community to fight crime in Adamawa societies.

Maxwell also said that the state Government will financially support them to motivate them for the service needed
