Gov. Ishaku pledges to meet the yearnings of Taraba Legion

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has assured of meeting all the requests made by the leadership of the State chapter of the Nigerian Legion.

The Governor stated this on Friday during the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at the Trade Fair Complex, Jalingo.

Represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Haruna Manu, Ishaku said the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Soldiers should not be compromised.

He said, it is his administration’s determination to always support the Legion with welfare packages to better their lives.

He further called on the people of the State to complement the efforts of the fallen heroes by supporting those they have left behind.

Earlier, in his address, the Chairman, Taraba State chapter of Nigeria Legion, Alh. Sa’idu Muhammad said Armed Forces Remembrance Day was first introduced by the Common Wealth Nation, saying Nigeria was a member.

According to him, Nigerians later agreed to be celebrating theirs annually to remember their fallen Heroes who he explained fought for the 1st/2nd World War, Nigerian Civil War, UN Peace Keeping Mission, among others.

Alh. Sa’idu used the forum to request Governor Ishaku to increase the number of Seats allotted to the Legion for their Christian and Muslim Pilgrimages to Israel and Saudi Arabia respectively.

However, the Speaker Taraba State House of Assembly, Dr. Joseph Albasu Kunini has commended the courage of Nigerian military personnel in confronting security challenges facing the nation and ensuring that the country remain one indivisible entity.


Kunini who spoke to journalists in Jalingo as part of activities to mark this year’s armed Forces Remembrance Day, noted that the role of containing internal security and cohesion as well as protecting the territorial integrity of the country has put a lot of strain on men of the armed Forces.

He urged the people to pray for men of the forces, especially those on the front line in the fight against insurgency, banditry and militancy in various parts of the country and for the families of those who have lost their lives in the course of working for the safety of the country.
