An eighty-six-year-old blind woman, residing in Laide-Bajabure in Girei local government area was alleged to have been raped by a forty-four-year-old man, one Abdulraham Muhammad Bajabure who is a one time Councillorship aspirant.

Abdulrahman was said to have committed the act on Monday at the residence of the victim.

After the suspect had assaulted the woman and was about to escape, the victim is said to have raised an alarm which attracted neighbours who caught the suspect in the room.

The unmarried suspect was been handed over to the Police in Girei town.

Reacting on the incident, the Chairperson, Woman Wing of Laka Cultural Association, Adamawa state, Madam Sarah Justine expressed concern over the increasing cases of rape and called on the authorities to stiffly punish perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to others.

In a similar development, two cousins in Mayo-Belwa town, have allegedly gang-raped a fourteen-year-old girl.

The perpetrators, Faruk Dahiru, a primary school teacher with Mayo-Belwa Local Education Authority and Muktar Shuaibu a staff of Mayo-Belwa local government council residing Anguwan Nyako, Mayo-Belwa who are both married were said to have lured the innocent girl to an outskirt of the town and severally assaulted her.

An investigation by ABC Reporter shows that the suspects were arrested and handed over to Police in Mayo-Belwa for prosecution, but their parents intervened and scuttled the case.

As at the time of filing in this report, the suspects have gone into hiding as relatives of the girl vowed to take up the issue further.

Contacted, the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje was yet to be briefed on the cases but promised to investigate.
