INT’L YOUTH DAY:ADAMAWA YOWICAN CHAIR COMMEMORATE DAY WITH A CALL TO INVOLVE IN NAT’L POLITICS

22 years ago, in 1999 to be precise, the United Nation’s General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made in Lisborn, 8th- 12th August, 1998, that 12th August be declared international youth day.

YOWICAN Adamawa State Chapter, joins youths across the world to observe and commemorate this International Youth Day.

As the youth chairman of the Youth Wing CAN, Adamawa State chapter, I seize this opportunity to bring greetings to all the youths across the state and the world at large.

The hope and the future of every nation, is dependent on the vibrancy of her active population which constitute %90 of the youth population. A nation is considered dead and un-futuristic if her youths are subjugated, oppressed and rendered inactive and hopeless. This is one among many reasons why Apostle Paul admonishes us in IITimothy 2:15, when he says, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.

We need to work hard to demonstrate our relevancy to our nation and generation as a whole.

By next year, YOWICAN will commemorate this event with award presentation to youths in the state who have made themselves and their voices active in nation building.

Even as the world celebrate this youth day with the theme: Engagement for Global Action, I charge us to:

Engage ourselves in the local/community level,

Engage ourselves at the state level,

Engage ourselves at the national level and

Engage ourselves at the global level.

Youths must not accept the status quo foist on them by the older generation, a scenario in which we are relegated to errand boys, following our oppressors over peanuts and material things that perish.

Youths must not admit the illusion that they are incapable of venturing into politics or taking over the nation from the hands of political cabals who are busy pulling it down.

Youths must emancipate themselves from the vicious impediment inflicted on them, which psycho conditioned their minds into believing that they are incapable of redeeming the nation from decadence.

IITimothy 4:12 “let no man despise thy youth…”

Don’t give anybody the opportunity of relegating you on account of your youthfulness.

Let every one know that we can,
Let’s be responsible young people,
Let’s be creative and innovative,
Let’s come up with business ideas,
Let every youth be an owner of a business venture; there is always something we can do,
Let’s create multiple channels of income so we can lighten the world,
Let’s come up with national policies and ideas that can change our nations and the world at large.

I want to see youths in politics,
I want to see youths in their thirties, forties and fifties displaying their political posters in the state, contesting for governorship, senator, and even the seat of presidency, with our enormous population in the state and nation, we can take back our rightful place in governance, “Yes we can!”

Even as we battle with the pandemic of Covid-19, I urge us to protect ourselves against the virus that has killed many across the world, maintain social distance, wash your hands, and don’t forget to put on your face masks, with the help of God, we will win the battle against COVID-19.

Let’s shun social vices, immorality and drug abuse, the urgency of now demands activism and nationalism and total commitment to God. Enjoy the best of the moments, happy International Youth Day.

Thank you all,
I am yours,

Rev. Gabriel L. Shall
YOWICAN Chairman
Adamawa State Chapter
