MAUTECH ASUU INSISTS NEVER TO BE PART OF FED GOVT IPPS PROGRAMME

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, has insisted that its members will not key into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information (IPPS) programme of the federal government.

The MAUTECH branch chairman of the Union, Dr Sadiq Umar, said in a press interview that the resolution for non-involvement was reached at the last emergency congress meeting of the union.

Umar said there are issues concerning the IPPS implementation yet to be addressed by the federal government, and that the implementation of the program will affect the autonomy of the institution.

He said, “The implementation of IPPS would destruct university hierarchy and system. The IPPS if put in place, will make the running of the university system a one man show.”

He stressed that responsibilities of the university hierarchy would be taken away from them.

The university don, along with the IPPS monitoring team, urged government to maintain the status quo.

“Let governing council oversee the management, funds, promotion and employment of staff in the university.

“This chapter of ASUU strongly condemns moves where the office of the Accountant General of the Federation would be the governing council of universities,” Umar added.
