The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says war against drug abuse can only be won in the country through inclusive and accountable institution of criminal justice, health and social services.
These was part of issues featured at a press briefing by the NDLEA Taraba state Command held in Jalingo, the state capital.
State Acting Commandant Peter Odaudu said that the command has yielded modest success in it’s war against drugs abuse, as it has seized over 677 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in the State between 2018 and 2019.
He explained that 171suspects were arrested within the same period for drug abuse related offences, adding that some of them were convicted while others were rehabilitated and integrated back to the society.
Recalled that the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit drugs trafficking was marked last week with the theme”Health for Justice, Justice For Health”.
The theme calls for drug abuse victims to be seen by the society as sick persons that need to be treated, rather than victimized.
