APC chieftain insists next Presidency must come from Southern Nigeria

Alhaji Ahmed Lawal, State Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Adamawa on Thursday, insisted that southern Nigeria should be allowed to produce the next President.

Lawal made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.

He recalled that the amalgamation of the North and Southern Nigeria engendered an indivisible marriage.

He insisted that the era of ‘seat tight’ in power, as well as undue dominance by one region over the other was a thing of the past.

He referred to those who nursed grudges against his opinion for power shift to have a rethink that domination could cause instability.

Lawal, who is one of the aspirants for the position of National Secretary of the APC vowed to enshrine zoning of power in the APC constitution.

He assured that everything possible would be done to ensure that APC abide by the party’s constitution to avoid unnecessary acrimonious that dominate the process of choosing leaders.

“To me, I will stand my ground to defend truth and justice.

“I still maintain that those who are scheming for power retention in the North after Buhari’s eight years are wasting their time.

“That cannot work because it is no longer the military era where leaders took over through coup de’tat.

“Now, it is democracy and we must uphold justice and fairness for the stability of our nation state.

“Power shift to southern Nigeria is sacrosanct and as it stands, the issue of zoning must be captured in our party constitution to limit unnecessary power tussles within the party.

“I still maintain my ground, those who protested against me for saying the truth are wasting their time because I am entitled to my own opinion,”Lawal insisted.
