TIV/JUKUN CRISIS: TIV YOUTHS URGE NIGERIA ARMY TO BE NEUTRAL
The Taraba Tiv Youths Forum has urged personnel of the Nigeria Army deployed to quel the protracted communal crisis between Tiv and Jukun in Wukari Local Government area of Taraba state to remain neutral.
“We have observed with disdain and surprise the role by the military in colluding with the Jukun militia by killing the Tiv people and carrying wanton distruction of homes and property in Wukari local government area of Taraba state.
“This act is evident as a detachment of troops of 93 Battalion from Ada barracks inTakum Taraba state lead by Major Salisu who carried out attack on Tor-Iorshaer Village in Wukari local government area.
“The collusion and maiming of Tiv communities has continued unabated as attacks had been carried out on all Tiv communities within Wukari local government.
We also wonder how Nigeria army would deploy APCs and Tanks which are stationed in Tor-Iorshaer and its environs, as Jukwun militia continue destroying Tiv villages.
“We wish therefore, to urge the army authorities to investigate the army’s involvement in the crisis with the view to bringing perpatriators to book.
Such will also build more confidence in the people of the area.
“We equally appeal to both Taraba state and Federal government to establish an IDP camp to cater for the displaced persons.
“We also seek immediate intervention by government with the view to ending the crisis and prevent any further reoccurrence of the crisis.
“Another issue of worry is that those displaced persons are predominantly farmers and there is every need for them to return to their communities and continue with their economic activities as the prolonged conflict would threatened food security in the state’, .
