The plans to embark on a nationwide strike by Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) whose 30 days ultimatum has elapsed in the whole of 19 Northern states,the teachers in Adamawa state have been called upon to relax their minds and to go about their normal duties ws the union is in serious talking terms with the state government.
The Chairman of the state chapter of the union, Comrade Rodney Nathan disclosed this to newsmen in Yola maintained that the 30 days ultimatum as directed at the NEC meeting of the union in Ibadan has elapse yesterday 17th July, 2017, the state chapter is yet to receive any notice to proceed on an industrial action.
Rodney further disclosed that Adamawa teachers still have a 5months salary arrears which according to him is a good reason to embark on strike, but you only embark on an industrial action when there is a total failure of negotiation between the government and the people.
According to him, Adamawa is one of the 19 northern states that was having the problem before the notice, Adamawa has to hear from the national and likewise, the national has to hear from Adamawa before any action is taken.
“When opportunity is given, you as a leader cannot go with emotion, you need to settle down to think within the said period and decide the next line of action”, he stated.
“When the government is ready to talk and listen to you, yo have no option, sine they are talking we will listen and given then the benefit of doubt”, the unionist stressed.
He pointed out that there is understanding between the union and the state government, hoping that very soon something will happen as teachers will smile soon.
Recall that the governor of Adamawa State,Senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow during an official commissioning of new projects (Lecture theaters) in the state polytechnic (SPY) through the intervention of TETFUND,he reiterated his keen plans to revived the entire education sector of the state.
He assured all teachers in the state of settling their salaries backlog as it is one of the key issues to sustain the implementation of the State of emergency declared in the education sector.
