The State Chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalists,NUJ, Adamawa state has suspended activities as one of the preventive measures against the spread of coronavirus in the State.

According to the Union Secretary through a signed statement, Comrade Fedelis Jockthan, said the decision it is to comply with the directive of it’s National Secretariat that the Union in Adamawa has suspended it’s major activities that may attract large gathering.

“The state council of the union during it’s emergency meeting on the pandemic implore it’s members to be cautious while covering events, interviews and investigative reporting by observing social-distance, using face-masks and sanitizers as prescribed in the safety tips against COVID-19.

“The NUJ, equally urged it’s members to exhibit high Sense of discipline and professionalism as well as jettison speculations on any matter that concerns the present situation by using information emanating from the mitigation committee constituted by Adamawa State Government.

“As critical stakeholders in Adamawa project, the NUJ pledges to collaborate with the 10-man committee headed by secretary to State Government Dr.Bashir Ahmed in updating citizens as well as embarking on aggressive public enlightenment against the pandemic.

“The leadership of the union during the session acknowledged the pragmatic steps deviced by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in curbing the spread of Corona virus in Adamawa State by providing a standard quarantine centre at Yola Specialist in case of any eventuality.

“It further commended the media organizations in the state for the measures put in place towards safeguarding members and creating awareness on the pandemic.” The statement read
