8 Persons kill in Skirmish Between Herdsmen and Koh Community in Adamawa.sons

No fewer than 8 persons killed and several others injured in a skirmish involving Koh community and the Fulani Herdsmen in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Eyewitness accounts that the skirmish started on Saturday afternoon when a Fulani herdsman trespassed into a farm belonging to a member of the Koh community as a result of that the owner of the farm who was closed by raised an alarm to other community members.

He said the development attracted other members of the community who came out in their hundreds to chase the Fulani herdsman with his cattle adding that the herdsman escaped from his chasers and went to reinforce other herdsmen to clash with members of Koh community.

The eyewitness claimed that skirmish resulted to the killing of 8 persons and 7 injured and rushed to Specialist and Zinth Hospital in Yola, the state capital for treatment , adding among the 7 injured 2 person are critically injured .

Earlier this year the herdsmen had attacked four villages including Koh community resulting to killing of over 40 persons and many were displaced and flee to neighboring towns for safety.

The leaders of the Koh community had also alerted the security agencies in the state due to the fact that after the attack there have been running battles between the herdsmen and communities in those areas as resulting fleeing of the Fulani herdsmen out of the areas and they only come the areas to graze.

A politician and a stakeholder in the state, Mr PP Elisha also confirmed the attack and said two of his relatives were killed in the clashed including a police a man who was on leave.

He said, the police man was hit by a straight bullet when he was trying to run for safety .

He said that the clashed resulted to the dead of several persons that he was yet to get the exact figure of the casualties .

However, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, DSP Abubakar Othman confirmed that only one person was killed in the clash between the herdsmen and members of the Koh Community.

He said, among the five persons injured two were critically injured and were rushed to Zinth Hospital while rest were taken to Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Othman said the situation was under control as he added that the police force has since deployed their men to curb the situation
